Things to do for Valentine’s Day that aren’t dinner

No, the pink-drenched merchandise isn’t announcing a Barbie sequel (we wish). TL;DR: give experiences, not stuff.

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and if you’re looking for things to do that are a little more special than a dinner at one of Vancouver’s already-booked eateries, we have some ideas.

#1 - Make pasta from scratch

It’s fun, it’s easy, and most of all, it’s delicious. Follow along with with a step-by-step video. Or, just watch Jamie Oliver do it.

#2 - Go on a thermal bathing journey

Sauna, ice bath, repeat. If going to Finland isn’t in the cards, there are thermal baths in Vancouver and in Whistler. DIY-it with a mid-February polar bear swim at Kits Beach or English Bay.

#3 - Go to IKEA

The Scandi theme continues. Here us out: you get to walk around the showroom and imagine your dream house, and finish the day with salmon lox, Swedish meatballs or frozen yoghurts. We dare you not to buy a potted plant.

#4 - Go to the theatre

Our production of the Tony-nominated Constellations starts on Valentine's Day! Join us for an evening of laughter, love, and quantum cosmology. Tickets for this performance are limited, so get to it! If you can’t make it on the 14th itself, a pair of tickets still make a great gift. Constellations runs at Vancouver’s Studio 16 Theatre February 14th-25th.

Consumerism is out-- culture is in

Whether it's Valentine's Day, Galentine's Day, or a day for yourself, lighten up your February with an experience you won't forget.
